Fulton J. Sheen, who is, at once, both eloquent and brilliant, tells the story of Mary and examines Marian dogma from the perspective of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, the Fathers of the Church and from Papal pronouncements. It is a moving portrayal. Sheen plunges the depths of Marian spirituality, history, philosophy and theology.
He presents meditations on the Immaculate Conception, the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, the miracle of Fatima, Mary and the devotion that Muslims have to Our Lady of Fatima, and much more.
Archbishop Sheen highlights the dignity, strength and gifts of women and their ability to help heal the world’s problems with Mary as the model of Christian discipleship and perfection. He shows the truth that our Holy Mother the Church teaches us that it is Mary who “alone destroys all heresies throughout the whole world.”
Excerpt from the World’s First Love
Love Begins with a Dream
Every person carries within his heart a blueprint of the one he loves. What seems to be “love at first sight” is actually the fulfillment of desire, the realization of a dream. Plato, sensing this, said that all knowledge is a recollection from a previous existence. This is not true as he states it, but it is true if one understands it to mean that we already have an ideal in us, one that is made by our thinking, our habits, our experiences, and our desires. Otherwise, how would we know immediately, on seeing persons or things, that we loved them? Before meeting certain people we already have a pattern and mold of what we like and what we do not like; certain persons fit into that pattern, others do not.
When we hear music for the first time, we either like or dislike it. We judge it by the music we already have heard in our own hearts. Jittery minds, which cannot long repose in one object of thought or in continuity of an ideal, love music that is distracting, excited, and jittery. Calm minds like calm music: the heart has its own secret melody, and one day, when the score is played, the heart answers: “This is it.” So it is with love. A tiny architect works inside the human heart drawing sketches of the ideal love from the people it sees, from the books it reads, from its hopes and daydreams, in the fond hope that the eye may one day see the ideal and the hand touch it. Life becomes satisfying the moment the dream is seen walking, and the person appears as the incarnation of all that one loved. The liking is instantaneous—because, actually, it was there waiting for a long time. Some go through life without ever meeting what they call their ideal. This could be very disappointing, if the ideal never really existed. But the absolute ideal of every heart does exist, and it is God. All human love is an initiation into the Eternal. Some find the Ideal in substance without passing through the shadow.
God, too, has within Himself blueprints of everything in the universe. As the architect has in his mind a plan of the house before the house is built, so God has in His Mind an archetypal idea of every flower, bird, tree, springtime, and melody. There never was a brush touched to canvas or a chisel to marble without some great pre-existing idea. So, too, every atom and every rose is a realization and concretion of an idea existing in the Mind of God from all eternity. All creatures below man correspond to the pattern God has in His Mind. A tree is truly a tree because it corresponds to God’s idea of a tree. A rose is a rose because it is God’s idea of a rose wrapped up in chemicals and tints and life. But it is not so with persons. God has to have two pictures of us: one is what we are, and the other is what we ought to be. He has the model, and He has the reality: the blueprint and the edifice, the score of the music and the way we play it. God has to have these two pictures because in each and every one of us there is some disproportion and want of conformity between the original plan and the way we have worked it out. The image is blurred; the print is faded. For one thing, our personality is not complete in time; we need a renewed body. Then, too, our sins diminish our personality; our evil acts daub the canvas the Master Hand designed. Like unhatched eggs, some of us refuse to be warmed by the Divine Love, which is so necessary for incubation to a higher level. We are in constant need of repairs; our free acts do not coincide with the law of our being; we fall short of all God wants us to be. St. Paul tells us that we were predestined, before the foundations of the world were laid, to become the sons of God. But some of us will not fulfill that hope.
There is, actually, only one person in all humanity of whom God has one picture and in whom there is a perfect conformity between what He wanted her to be and what she is, and that is His Own Mother. Most of us are a minus sign, in the sense that we do not fulfill the high hopes the Heavenly Father has for us. But Mary is the equal sign. The Ideal that God had of her, that she is, and in the flesh. The model and the copy are perfect; she is all that was foreseen, planned, and dreamed. The melody of her life is played just as it was written. Mary was thought, conceived, and planned as the equal sign between ideal and history, thought and reality, hope and realization.
That is why, through the centuries, Christian liturgy has applied to her the words of the Book of Proverbs. Because she is what God wanted us all to be, she speaks of herself as the Eternal blueprint in the Mind of God, the one whom God loved before she was a creature. She is even pictured as being with Him not only at creation but also before creation. She existed in the Divine Mind as an Eternal Thought before there were any mothers. She is the Mother of mothers—she is the world’s first love.
“The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His ways, before He made anything, from the beginning. I was set up from eternity, and of old, before the earth was made. The depths were not as yet, and I was already conceived; neither had the fountains of waters as yet sprung out; the mountains with their huge bulk had not as yet been established: before the hills I was brought forth. He had not yet made the earth, or the rivers, or the poles of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was present; when with a certain law and compass He enclosed the depths; when He established the sky above and poised the fountains of waters; when He compassed the sea with its bounds and set a law to the waters that they should not pass their limits; when He balanced the foundations of the earth; I was with Him, forming all things, and was delighted every day, playing before Him at all times, playing in the world: and my delights were to be with the children of men. Now, therefore, ye children, hear me: Blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me and that watcheth daily at my gates and waiteth at the posts of my doors. He that shall find me shall find life and shall have salvation from the Lord” (Prov 8:22-35).
But God not only thought of her in eternity; He also had her in mind at the beginning of time. In the beginning of history, when the human race fell through the solicitation of a woman, God spoke to the Devil and said, “I will establish a feud between thee and the woman, between thy offspring and hers; she is to crush thy head, while thou dost lie in wait at her heels” (Gen 3:15). God was saying that, if it was by a woman that man fell, it would be through a woman that God would be revenged. Whoever His Mother would be, she would certainly be blessed among women, and because God Himself chose her, He would see to it that all generations would call her blessed.
When God willed to become Man, He had to decide on the time of His coming, the country in which He would be born, the city in which He would be raised, the people, the race, the political and economic systems that would surround Him, the language He would speak, and the psychological attitudes with which He would come in contact as the Lord of History and the Savior of the World.
All these details would depend entirely on one factor: the woman who would be His Mother. To choose a mother is to choose a social position, a language, a city, an environment, a crisis, and a destiny.
His Mother was not like ours, whom we accepted as something historically fixed, which we could not change; He was born of a Mother whom He chose before He was born. It is the only instance in history where both the Son willed the Mother and the Mother willed the Son. And this is what the Creed means when it says “born of the Virgin Mary.” She was called by God as Aaron was, and Our Lord was born not just of her flesh but also by her consent.
Before taking unto Himself a human nature, He consulted with the Woman, to ask her if she would give Him a man. The Manhood of Jesus was not stolen from humanity, as Prometheus stole fire from heaven; it was given as a gift.
The first man, Adam, was made from the slime of the earth. The first woman was made from a man in an ecstasy. The new Adam, Christ, comes from the new Eve, Mary, in an ecstasy of prayer and love of God and the fullness of freedom.
We should not be surprised that she is spoken of as a thought by God before the world was made. When Whistler painted the picture of his mother, did he not have the image of her in his mind before he ever gathered his colors on his palette? If you could have preexisted your mother (not artistically, but really), would you not have made her the most perfect woman that ever lived—one so beautiful she would have been the sweet envy of all women, and one so gentle and so merciful that all other mothers would have sought to imitate her virtues? Why, then, should we think that God would do otherwise? When Whistler was complimented on the portrait of his mother, he said, “You know how it is; one tries to make one’s Mummy just as nice as he can.” When God became Man, He too, I believe, would make His Mother as nice as He could—and that would make her a perfect Mother.
God never does anything without exceeding preparation. The two great masterpieces of God are Creation of man and Re-creation or Redemption of man. Creation was made for unfallen men; His Mystical Body, for fallen men. Before making man, God made a garden of delights—as God alone knows how to make a garden beautiful. In that Paradise of Creation there were celebrated the first nuptials of man and woman. But man willed not to have blessings, except according to his lower nature. Not only did he lose his happiness; he even wounded his own mind and will. Then God planned the remaking or redeeming of man. But before doing so, he would make another Garden. This new one would be not of earth but of flesh; it would be a Garden over whose portals the name of sin would never be written—a Garden in which there would grow no weeds of rebellion to choke the growth of the flowers of grace—a Garden from which there would flow four rivers of redemption to the four corners of the earth—a Garden so pure that the Heavenly Father would not blush at sending His Own Son into it—and this “flesh-girt Paradise to be gardened by the Adam new” was Our Blessed Mother. As Eden was the Paradise of Creation, Mary is the Paradise of the Incarnation, and in her as a Garden were celebrated the first nuptials of God and man. The closer one gets to fire, the greater the heat; the closer one is to God, the greater the purity. But since no one was ever closer to God than the woman whose human portals He threw open to walk this earth, then no one could have been more pure than she. In the words of Lawrence Housman:
A garden bower in flower
Grew waiting for God’s hand:
Where no man ever trod,
This was the Gate of God.
The first bower was red—
Her lips which “welcome” said.
The second bower was blue—
Her eyes that let God through.
The third bower was white—
Her soul in God’s sight.
Three bowers of love
Now Christ from heaven above. This special purity of hers we call the Immaculate Conception. It is not the Virgin Birth. The word “immaculate” is taken from two Latin words meaning “not stained.” “Conception” means that, at the first moment of her conception, the Blessed Mother in the womb of her mother, St. Anne, and in virtue of the anticipated merits of the Redemption of her Son, was preserved free from the stains of Original Sin.
I never could see why anyone in this day and age should object to the Immaculate Conception; all modern pagans believe that they are immaculately conceived. If there is no Original Sin, then everyone is immaculately conceived. Why do they shrink from allowing to Mary what they attribute to themselves? The doctrine of Original Sin and the Immaculate Conception are mutually exclusive. If Mary alone is the Immaculate Conception, then the rest of us must have Original Sin.
The Immaculate Conception does not imply that Mary needed no Redemption. She needed it as much as you and I do. She was redeemed in advance, by way of prevention, in both body and soul, in the first instant of conception. We receive the fruits of redemption in our soul at Baptism. The whole human race needs redemption. But Mary was de-solidarized and separated from that sin-laden humanity as a result of the merits of Our Lord’s Cross being offered to her at the moment of her conception. If we exempted her from the need of redemption, we would also have to exempt her from membership in humanity. The Immaculate Conception, therefore, in no way implies that she needed no redemption. She did! Mary is the first effect of redemption, in the sense that it was applied to her at the moment of her conception and to us in another and diminished fashion only after our birth.
She had this privilege, not for her sake, but for His sake. That is why those who do not believe in the Divinity of Christ can see no reason for the special privilege accorded to Mary. If I did not believe in the Divinity of Our Lord—which God avert—I should see nothing but nonsense in any special reverence given to Mary above the other women on earth! But if she is the Mother of God, Who became Man, then she is unique, and then she stands out as the new Eve of Humanity—as He is the new Adam.
There had to be some such creature as Mary—otherwise God would have found no one in whom He could fittingly have taken His human origin. An honest politician seeking civic reforms looks about for honest assistants. The Son of God beginning a new creation searched for some of that Goodness which existed before sin took over. There would have been, in some minds, a doubt about the Power of God if He had not shown a special favor to the woman who was to be His Mother. Certainly what God gave to Eve, He would not refuse to His Own Mother.
Suppose that God in making over man did not also make over woman into a new Eve! What a howl of protest would have gone up! Christianity would have been denounced as are all male religions. Women would then have searched for a female religion! It would have been argued that woman was always the slave of man and even God intended her to be such, since He refused to make the new Eve as He made the new Adam.
Had there been no Immaculate Conception, then Christ would have been said to be less beautiful, for He would have taken His Body from one who was not humanly perfect! There ought to be an infinite separation between God and sin, but there would not have been if there was not one Woman who could crush the cobra’s head.
If you were an artist, would you allow someone to prepare your canvas with daubs? Then why should God be expected to act differently when He prepares to unite to Himself a human nature like ours, in all things, save sin? But having lifted up one woman by preserving her from sin, and then having her freely ratify that gift at the Annunciation, God gave hope to our disturbed, neurotic, gauche, and weak humanity. Oh, yes! He is our Model, but He is also the Person of God! There ought to be, on the human level, Someone who would give humans hope, Someone who could lead us to Christ, Someone who would mediate between us and Christ as He mediates between us and the Father. One look at her, and we know that a human who is not good can become better; one prayer to her, and we know that, because she is without sin, we can become less sinful.
And that brings us back to the beginning. We have said that everyone carries within his heart a blueprint of his ideal love. The best of human loves, no matter how devoted they be, must end—and there is nothing perfect that ends. If there be anyone of whom it is possible to say, “This is the last embrace,” then there is no perfect love. Hence some, ignoring the Divine, may try to have a multiplicity of loves make up for the ideal love; but this is like saying that to render a musical masterpiece one must play a dozen different violins.
Every man who pursues a maid, every maid who yearns to be courted, every bond of friendship in the universe, seeks a love that is not just her love or his love but something that overflows both her and him that is called “our love.” Everyone is in love with an ideal love, a love that is so far beyond sex that sex is forgotten. We all love something more than we love. When that overflow ceases, love stops. As the poet puts it: “I could not love thee, dear, so much, loved I not honor more.” That ideal love we see beyond all creature-love, to which we instinctively turn when flesh-love fails, is the same ideal that God had in His Heart from all eternity—the Lady whom He calls “Mother.” She is the one whom every man loves when he loves a woman—whether he knows it or not. She is what every woman wants to be when she looks at herself. She is the woman whom every man marries in ideal when he takes a spouse; she is hidden as an ideal in the discontent of every woman with the carnal aggressiveness of man; she is the secret desire every woman has to be honored and fostered; she is the way every woman wants to command respect and love because of the beauty of her goodness of body and soul. And this blueprint love, whom God loved before the world was made, this Dream Woman before women were, is the one of whom every heart can say in its depth of depths: “She is the woman I love!”

The Gregorian Chant Kyriale is one of the greatest treasures of the vast musical heritage of Roman Catholics. Now back in print, the Organ Accompaniment to the Vatican Kyriale provides a lovely organ accompaniment book for the Gregorian Chant Kyriale (e.g., the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, Ite missa est).
This is a must-have for organists who play for the Traditional Latin Mass (1962 Missale Romanum)!
First published in 1937, this organ accompaniment has in modern notation all of the standard Kyriale modes (I - XVIII), the Credo modes I-VI, and the Asperges (including one ad libitum) and Vidi aquam modes.
Featured at the back of the book can be handily found the various responses made during sung Mass (e.g., Dominus vobiscum, for the Preface, the Pater noster, etc.) in both solemn and ferial tone, and even the pontifical blessing as given when a bishop celebrates.
And for choirs that are not proficient enough yet to sing the propers of the Requiem without the help of the organ, Bragers generously provided the accompaniments for their propers and Kyriale and the other funeral functions; i.e.: the entrance of the casket into the church (Subvenite), the in Exsequiis (Miserere) absolution ceremony (Libera me, responses and Benedictus), and the concluding antiphon, In Paradisum.
Of course what Gregorian Chant organ accompaniment manual is complete without supplying some of the ad libitum modes for the Kyriale? Bragers succeeds here too admirably with cantus ad libitum modes for I - XI of the Kyrie, I - III and more…
Throughout the entire book, the organ notation is underscored by the Latin words, hyphenated under each appropriate note (which assists with proper pronunciation of liturgical Latin too). Fully indexed, all notations and text are in printed in black ink on medium stock paper to ensure durability, while the spacious plastic coil-binding gives the organist easy and quick access. This score lays flat.

_Page_2.jpg)
All sin is an offense against God and a rejection of his perfect love and justice. Yet, Jesus makes a distinction between two types of sins. We call the most serious and grave sins, mortal sins. Mortal sins destroy the grace of God in the heart of the sinner. By their very grave nature, a mortal sin cuts our relationship off from God and turns man away from his creator. St. Paul’s letter to the Hebrews tell us that “if we sin willfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins” (Hebrews 10:26).
The second type of sin, venial sin, that of less grave matter, does not cut us off from Christ. However, venial sin does weaken grace in the soul and damages our relationship with God. A person who frequently indulges in venial sin is very likely to collapse into mortal sin if they persist in their evil ways.
In order for a sin to be mortal, it must meet three conditions:
* Mortal sin is a sin of grave matter
* Mortal sin is committed with full knowledge of the sinner
* Mortal sin is committed with deliberate consent of the sinner
This means that mortal sins cannot be done “accidentally.” A person who commits a mortal sin is one who knows that their sin is wrong, but still deliberately commits the sin anyway. This means that mortal sins are “premeditated” by the sinner and thus are truly a rejection of God’s law and love.

This is a rare find! This 62 page booklet guides the faithful though the 40 days of Lent by taking them on a pilgrimage of the “stational churches” of Rome.
How did the Catholic Church in Rome observe Lent in the early centuries of the Church? It went on pilgrimage to the STATIONAL CHURCHES OF ROME.
The word “station” seems to come from the Latin “statio,” (i.e. “standing together") alluding to the ancient custom of the Catholic faithful gathering at a particular church with the Bishop for the celebration of the Holy Mass.
Before the end of the 1st century, the growth of the Catholic Church in Rome, Antioch, and Alexandria required multiple Eucharistic liturgies in different “domus Dei” (churches in private homes), but the Bishop’s Mass remained the official public liturgy.
When periods of persecution died down, official stations were designated for celebrating major feast days in various churches, so that as much of the Catholic faithful as possible might attend Mass with the Bishop.
After the Constantinian Peace, the privative “domus Dei” became the “tituli,” titular or parish churches, which numbered 25 by the 5th century. Eventually the Roman stations were reorganized and assigned to these titular churches, plus the new Constantinian basilicas. The number of stational churches gradually increased, especially under the liturgical influences of Jerusalem. Pope Leo III (795-816 A.D.) completed the list of the STATIONAL CHURCHES OF ROME with 94 stations on 92 days, including the 40 days of Lent and the octave of Easter.
The STATIONAL CHURCHES OF ROME provides the faithful a way to deepen their Lenten pilgrimage toward the day of Christ’s Resurrection on Easter, by developing devotion to the saints, by encouraging all to pray for the intentions of the Holy Father and by appreciating more profoundly the riches of the Sacred Scripture found in the Traditional Latin Mass (1962 Missale Romanum).

“For very many this book of Mr. Geoffrey Webb’s will be a Godsend.” So penned Fr. Bede Jarrett, OP in the foreword of this invaluable title.
This brief, but comprehensive work presents a supernatural approach to understanding the center of Catholic life, the altar.
Considered by some to be “the bible” on the subject of the altar, this book covers its historical development, form, symbolism, and vesting, as well as it appurtenances, such as the cross, candles, use of flowers and reliquaries.
Continuing the words of Fr. Jarrett:
It presents to us in its unending formulas the ritual of Redemption. It does not aim at imposing the dead hand of antiquarianism on the adornment of the altar. It deals with the decrees of the Congregation that are in force, some directive, some perceptive, but only such as are of value today.
This book is also an inestimable resource from a practical aspect, in so far as it demonstrates how to construct a proper altar that conforms to the Church’s prescriptions and ideals without exhausting the parish coffers.
Please do not think that to carry out what is here recorded and to accomplish it…will necessarily be expensive. All that is written here can be done without much cost…
Mr. Webb’s magnificently composed text is complimented with pictorial examples of altars and line drawings that demonstrate how to implement what he outlines.
A timeless classic, this book will be of great general interest to any Catholic, lay or cleric, particularly church architects, liturgical artists, sacristans, those involved in liturgical functions, altar and rosary sodalities, florists, altar vesture manufactures, as well as religion teachers for all ages.

Saint John Cantius, Restoring the Sacred, investigates how a decaying old church in Chicago became a thriving religious and cultural treasure. When a Catholic priest with no previous parish experience arrived, he faced a building in severe disrepair, but he realized that there was an even deeper need: to restore the faith and sacred culture of the parish community.
Enjoy the interview of Rev. C. Frank Phillips, CR, Pastor of St. John Cantius and Founder of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius. You will also hear from various members of the Canons Regular, the priests and brothers who have had a hand in resurrecting the parish life of St. John Cantius.

The long-awaited DVD of the Historic Solemn High Pontifical Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is now available.
History was made this past April 24, 2010. With approximately 4,000 of the Catholic Faithful taking part, and for the first time in almost half a century, a Solemn High Pontifical Mass was celebrated at the majestic High Altar of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., honoring our beloved Holy Father.
Few have ever seen anything like it! And none has been captured and televised live worldwide as this Mass was.
Celebrated by His Excellency Edward J. Slattery, Bishop of the Diocese of Tulsa, the Mass commemorated the fifth anniversary of the inauguration of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
This magnificent DVD shows EWTN’s broadcast of a truly glorious Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. A minute-by-minute commentary provides a rare liturgical education for us all. Highlights show the cappa magna procession; the vesting of the bishop; the procession of over 100 clergy into the sanctuary; the sacred bearing of ministers and servers throughout the ceremony, oriented toward liturgical east; and the angelic sacred music of the choirs and schola.
This DVD is also an excellent way to evangelize for the Church’s sacred liturgy and tradition, as His Holiness Pope Benedict desires.

This fascinating book on the use of candles in the Roman liturgy was previously difficult to obtain secondhand. In addition to explaining the ancient use and symbolisms of candles, Fr. Edwin Ryan (a noteworthy American liturgist) outlines the various liturgical rules for candles.
This work is also unique and interesting for its wonderful illustrations by Terence J. Hughes and James R. Howard. There are nine illustrations in all (four in beautiful watercolor and the remainder in black and white) which depict liturgically-correct altars properly vested with antependiums and conopaeums (even with some optional riddel curtains), and decorated with candles and flowers the Roman way.
Though ostensibly produced to sell candles, the book serves as an excellent example of the Liturgical Movement’s efforts in the United States to promote authentic practices of the Roman Rite against commonplace abuses and unbecoming expressions of liturgical art.
Reproduced as a high-quality softcover edition, a special natural-colored stock with a semi-sheen finish was used for the text, while the original vibrancy of the watercolor drawings was accurately recaptured.
Fully indexed and includes a table of contents, this book is a perfect reference for general interest, altar sodalities, sacristans, seminaries, catechism classes, and Catholic libraries.

This large-print edition of the 1954 Liber Brevior, includes the entireKyriale, all the liturgical chant propers for all Sundays, Commons and Feasts, plus Sunday Compline and Vespers as well as the Requiem and Burial liturgies.. Additional chants are included in honor of the Blessed Sacrament and the Virgin Mary and more. Special chants for the liturgical seasons are included as well.
(Sample page from the Liber Brevior)
This edition of the Liber Brevior works perfectly for the celebration of the Extraordinary Form (1962 Missal) and will only miss a few proper settings for saints canonized between 1954 and 1962, such as St. Martin de Porres. For those parishes who celebrate the Holy Week services according to the 1962 Missale Romanum, using the 1954 edition of the Liber Brevior will require careful consultation with the Missal as there were some liturgical modifications in those years.
Small choirs will be pleased to see that the Liber Brevior includes easier Psalm-tone settings for Graduals, Alleluias and Tracts in an appendix in the back of the book.
(Sample page of the simplified psalm-tone settings of the Graduals, Alleluias, etc. in the appendix.)
Unlike the Liber Usualis the Liber Brevior does not include the text of the Orations, Epistles and Gospels sung by the Priest at High Mass. Thus the Liber Brevior has fewer pages, a mere 800.

The most popular pre-Vatican II sacristy manual. We searched high and low for a good sacristy manual. Nothing could be clearer and simpler than the scheme of this 1932 book which has been newly typeset by Biretta Books, Ltd.
The Sacristan’s Manual encapsulates every possibility in the ceremony of the Traditional Latin Mass that occurs in the course of the year. And it does it in succinct manner and with precision.
The reader is told what he must do to prepare for the ceremony: what vestments to lay out, how to lay them out, how to prepare the altar, and what special features each particular ceremony contains. Fr. William A. O’Brien, a pastor, teacher, and liturgy expert defines each term and provides easy-to-understand illustrations and diagrams.

St. John Cantius Church in Chicago houses an elaborate 250 year-old Neapolitan “praesepio” from Rome. A presepio is the Italian version of the traditional Nativity Scene or Creche, only much larger. It includes not only the Nativity scene of the Christ Child with the Blessed Virgin, Joseph, shepherds and animals, but also a multitude of village scenes depicting Italian peasant life with villagers dressed in traditional folk costumes.
Originally, this presepio was to be donated to the Vatican but the donor chose rather to bequeath it to St. John Cantius where it is on permanent display in the church’s museum room. In order to generate funds to preserve and maintain our historic praesepio we have created these Praesepio Nativity Ornaments for your purchase. Now you can decorate your home at Christmas with these glass ornaments, painted in Poland.

This book provides a full color tour of St. John Cantius Church of Chicago. See the awe-inspiring sacred art and the thrilling architecture of one of Chicago’s most important churches.
Hoc loco habitat fortune, hic quiescit cor.
In this place abides happiness, here the heart finds peace.
For over 100 years this church has been a place of happiness as well as a place where the hearts of so many faithful have found peace. The beauty of the church building inspires one to raise mind and heart to God. The austere stone facade with the inscription Ad majorem Dei gloriam, sets the tone that not only this structure, but everything we do is done for the greater glory of God.
![]()
The warmth of the interior, while massive, invites the visitor into a church reminiscent of churches in Europe, most especially Poland. The give and take of the contrasts of light from the stained glass windows on the wood altars, balustrades, and floor truly give one a sense of peace. But a church is more than the art and architecture it contains. The structure is brought to life through the Church’s theology which is carried out in the sacred ceremonies of the Mass, the Sacraments,
a variety of devotions, and Her sacred music ranging from Plainchant or Gregorian chant to the classical works of Mozart, Haydn, and Schubert. All of these are united, as in a symphony, with the art, architecture, and the light contrasted against the dark wood. It is with great pleasure that we present this booklet of the art and architecture of St. John Cantius.
Over the past twenty years much has been done to restore the beauty of this church. The structure itself speaks of the majesty of God and the Divine worship which occurs daily. Over the past twenty years we have been able to restore the stained glass windows each telling a story of our Faith in the medium of glass.
![]()
The wood floor in the nave and sanctuary complement the wood altars and the medallions in the floor are a miniature in our catechism of the life of Christ: from His birth to His glorious Resurrection. The painting of St. John Cantius, our patron, brought back to its original splendor, brings our attention to this humble priest of the Middle Ages.
The main bell tower boasts four bells which announce the time, feast days, weddings, and funerals. Two carillons provide the surrounding neighborhood with melodies from sacred chant to devotional hymns.
![]()
In restoring the sacred, we have also been able to commission liturgical works of art from sacred vesture, to sacred vessels, from a replica of the Wit Stwosz altar in St. Mary’s Church in Cracow, to crowns for our Blessed Lady, a Centennial Chalice and the Millennium Monstrance.

We are happy to offer these new copies of Epistles and Gospels for Pulpit Use at the low price of $35.00 (USD), plus shipping and handling charges.
This soft-cover volume contains all the Epistle and Gospel readings in English in LARGE 16 point bold type print for Sundays and Feast Days. This book was originally printed in 1893 but has been updated to conform with the Missale Romanum 1962.
In the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass, (Missale Romanum 1962) the priest reads the Epistle and Gospel at the Altar in Latin, but before the Sermon/Homily the priest customarily re-reads the Epistle and Gospel in the vernacular for the benefit of the faithful. The translation provided here follows the traditional English translation from the Douay-Rheims (Challoner) edition, that has been revered as the English translation most faithful to the official Latin Vulgate edition of St. Jerome.
This item is a must for any priest celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass. Order your copy of the Epistles and Gospels for Pulpit Use at the low price of $20.00 (USD), plus shipping and handling charges.

This Christmas we are happy to offer three different Praesepio Nativity Ornaments. These collector items are available only for a limited time and so they make a wonderful collector’s item. Each year we expect to offer new Praesepio Nativity Ornaments with the various images from our 250 year-old Neapolitan “praesepio.” Purchase your collector-edition Praesepio Nativity Ornaments today!

The ever increasing interest in the Liturgical Traditions of the Church gives rise to the need for adequately trained altar servers and what better way to assist than to resurrect this classic altar boy manual! This famous handbook is an invaluable resource for all altar boys from beginning to advanced.
Thanks to the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius in Chicago, whose religious brothers serve the Traditional Latin Mass daily, we have been able to include multiple high quality digital images of the positions and actions of the servers in this newly typeset edition.
Though written for Instructors, this manual can also be used for home study, schools and sacristies. Dom Matthew Britt begins by offering specific instructions on common ceremonial actions, including how to make the proper bow, how to light the candles, and how to carry the Missal.
He also walks the servers step-by-step through Low Mass (with one or two servers), High Mass, Solemn High Masses, Nuptial and Requiem Masses, Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Contains more than 24 precise diagrams showing the various actions and positions of Acolytes, Thurifer, Master of Ceremonies, Sub-Deacon, and Deacon. Includes servers responses for the 1962 Latin Mass. How to Serve is a brief and clear manual from 1934 that is simply the best book of its kind. It will once again become the standard reference for acolytes, handing on to young servers the disciplines necessary for reverent Catholic ceremonies.
Rev. Joseph W. Kavanagh, author of The Altar Boys Ceremonial observes that every altar boy
“should realize that...he is , after the priest, and in the absence of other priests or Sacred Ministers, the closest one in the whole church to our Divine Savior in the Blessed Sacrament. Occupying this very important position in his parish, an Altar Boy s conduct should be exemplary at all times and in all places.”

The famed Benziger Brothers were one of America’s premier printers to the Apostolic See before they went bankrupt shortly after Vatican II. As its name would suggest, the defining element of the Roman Rite is romanitas, an ancient Latin term that refers to what it is to be Roman. As admirably described by Mr. Edmund Bishop in The Genius of the Roman Rite and further elaborated upon by Dom Ferdinand Cabrol in The Excellence of the Roman Mass, the Roman Rite is composed of simplicity and common sense, of sobriety and discipline, of gravity and dignity.
The General Principles of Ceremonies of the Roman Rite by Louis J. Tofari gives an excellent explanation of the rubrics of ceremonies for altar servers. For those Masters of Ceremonies who train servers, this is a wonderful resource and training tool for altar servers.

When celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass with incense, every priest will appreciate this set of altar cards which include the Offertory incense prayers.
Among the more difficult of the prayers of the Mass to memorize are the prayers used at the Offertory incensation. This unique set of altar cards, with large and clear print, makes it simple to execute the more difficult ceremonies of the Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form. An invaluable resource for priests beginning to celebrate the Roman Mass according to the 1962 Missale Romanum.
These altar cards include all of the usual prayers, including the Aufer a nobis, Oramus te, Ab illo benedicaris, as well as the prayers used at the incensation at the Offertory.
Blessing of Incense
Per intercessiónem beáti Michaëlis Archángeli, stantis a dextris altáris incénsi, et ómnium electórum suórum, incénsum istud dignétur Dóminus bene + dícere, et in odórem suavitátis accípere. Per Christum Dóminum nostrum. Amen.
Incensation of the Oblata
Incénsum istud, a te benedíctum, ascéndat ad te, Dómine, et descéndat super nos misericórdia tua.
Incensation of the Altar
Dirigátur, Dómine, oratio mea, sicut incénsum in conspéctu tuo: elevatio mánuum mearum sacrificium vespertínum. Pone, Dómine, custódiam ori meo, et óstium circumstántiæ lábiis meis: ut non declínet cor meum in verba malítiæ, ad excusándas excusatiónes in peccátis.
Returning the Thurible
Accéndat in nobis Dóminus ignem sui amóris, et flammam ætérne caritátis. Amen.

After having been out of print for over 30 years, this indispensable rubrical resource for the Extraordinary Form is now again available!
Author of several liturgically-related works, J.B. O’Connell is noted for his ability to clearly explain the complex ceremonial workings of the Roman Rite, particularly for the celebration of Mass by the priest.
The Celebration of Mass is valued by clergy and laity alike not only for its concise handling of the general rubrics, but also for its chapters that briefly describe the history of the development of the traditional Roman Mass, liturgical law, the proper understanding of the force of custom, the importance of the decisions made by the Sacred Congregation of Rites and the opinions of fellow rubricians.
O’Connell’s last revision made of The Celebration of Mass was printed in 1964 after a span of nearly 10 years from his last edition, making it one of the few rubrical books completely in conformity with the new code of rubrics implemented in 1960 that comprise the 1962 edition of the Missale Romanum.
Fully indexed and beautifully hardbound in dark green with gold embossing on the cover and spine.

“Whilst preparing the most recent edition of Adrian Fortescue’s Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described I added to the bibliography the 1964 edition of Canon J. B. O’Connell’s classic The Celebration of Mass noting that, in fact, this was the only book published in English at the time which conformed exactly to the 1962 editio typica of the Missale Romanum (which itself only appeared from the Vatican Press early in 1963 – printing and binding having been stopped and re-started in order to accommodate Bl. John XXIII’s insertion of St. Joseph into the Canon of the Mass). The 1962 edition of Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described was, therefore, published before the 1962 Missale Romanum and missed some rubrical modifications that appeared only in the editio typica.”
“But Canon O’Connell – undeterred, interestingly, by the approach of an ecumenical Council (on the Conciliar Liturgical Commission of which he was a peritus at the time) – proceeded with a thorough revision of his own comprehensive textbook on how to celebrate Mass. It received its imprimatur less than a month before the promulgation of Sacrosanctum concilium and appeared in print in the USA the following year whilst Fr. Bugnini was busy organising the infamous work of his Consilium.”
“Needless to say, this fourth edition of O’Connell’s book was quickly found to be redundant (though Canon O’Connell prepared a four page supplement which was printed and sold with the book listing many of the early changes made immediately following the Council) and many traditionalists have missed its importance because of its date.”
“Yet, for priests and seminarians learning how to celebrate the traditional rite of Mass, it is the basic textbook, more so, dare I say than even Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described. Ceremonies is certainly the basic manual for all involved in the celebration of the traditional rites, from sacristans to celebrants, but The Celebration of Mass is the textbook every seminarian and priest ought to have studied carefully in order to understand not only the ceremonial of the celebration of Mass, but the nature of the liturgy and the requirements of liturgical law, the rules occurrence and concurrence, the intricacies of the calendar, etc.”“The book does have much to offer laity involved in the celebration of the traditional liturgy, most especially its “Synopsis of the Ceremonies of Solemn Mass” (Appendix A) which lays out the respective duties of the celebrant, deacon, subdeacon and MC for each part of the Mass in parallel columns. The synopsis does contain one error (spotted by my longstanding friend Mr. Michael Pearce of Sydney) in that its instruction that the subdeacon lower the paten, genuflect etc., should be placed during the Pater and not at the Per quem haec omnia.”
“It had long been my hope that O’Connell’s invaluable book would be reprinted and I am delighted to report that this has recently taken place in the USA. The worthy hardback reprint (alas, not a new edition) is being distributed by Preserving Christian Publications. Its availability will further enhance the intelligent and faithful celebration of the traditional Mass according to the typical edition of the 1962 Missale Romanum.”

An excerpt from Explanation of the Prayers and Ceremonies of Holy Mass on the incensing of the altar…
The Altar represents our Lord Jesus Christ. The Saints’ Relics which are there, remind us that the Saints are His members. For, having assumed our human nature, He not only suffered His Passion, triumphed in His Resurrection, and entered into His glory by the Ascension, – but He, also, founded the Church upon earth, and this Church is His mystical Body; He is its Head, and the Saints are its members. From this point of view, then, our Lord has not the fullness of His mystical Body without His Saints; and it is for this reason, that the Saints, who are reigning with Him in glory, are united with Him, in the Altar, which represents Him...The Priest, having finished the prayer, which he said bowing down, and his hands joined on the Altar, prepares for its Incensing...Holy Church has borrowed this ceremony from heaven itself; where St. John witnessed it. In his Apocalypse, he saw an Angel, standing, with a golden censer, near the Altar, on which was the Lamb, with four-and-twenty elders around him. (Apoc. viii. 3.) He describes this Angel to us, as offering to God the prayers of the Saints, which are symbolised by the incense.
About the Author...
Dom Prosper Louis Pascal Guéranger (1805--1875) was a Benedictine priest and abbot of Solesmes. On July 11, 1833, the feast of St. Benedict, Dom Prosper Guéranger and five companions reopened the small monastery at Solesmes. It was the first monastery to be reopened in France after the Revolution. Abbot Guéranger encouraged the chant research and restoration work of the monks of Solesmes, and he worked tirelessly to restore monastic life to France, to purge the French Mass of its Gallican elements and thereby restore the Roman Liturgy to France.
Dom Guéranger was the author of The Liturgical Year, which covers every day of the Catholic Church’s Liturgical Cycle. It is a set of 15 volumes. Guéranger, the Abbot of Solesmes, restored the Priory of Solesmes. Guéranger was well regarded by Pope Pius IX, and was a proponent of the dogmas of papal infallibility and the Immaculate Conception. Dom Guéranger is credited with reviving the Benedictine Order in France, and revitalizing the Tridentine Latin Mass.

The Archconfraternity of Saint Stephen is a Guild formed with the object of sanctifying the server while serving the Mass and other sacred ceremonies. It was formed in March of 1905 in England by Father Hamilton MacDonald with the permission of Cardinal Bourne, then Archbishop of Westminster. Later of that same year, it was blessed by Saint Pius X. On December 04, 1906, the same Pope erected the guild to be an Archconfraternity with permission to establish other chapters of the Guild outside of the Diocese of Westminster within the British Isles. On February 19, 1934, Pope Pius XI allowed the Guild to spread throughout the entire British empire, and throughout the world.
Why is it important to have a Guild like the Archconfraternity? It helps us to come closer to the source of all graces, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. To be like the good angels led by Saint Michael, that is, to serve God. It develops a deeper contemplation on the Sacrifice of the Cross. The soul is nourished by frequent reception of Our Lord in Holy Communion. “To serve at the Altar… is next to the Priesthood the highest privilege which a layman can enjoy”(a quote from Cardinal Griffin’s Preface). It also develops devotion in the soul. It helps us to become more devout. The children (boys) develop good behavior at an early age. Their souls are fed with doctrines in the Catechism and nourished by serving the Mass. Their innocence are kept having the knowledge of what is right and wrong. “What you sow, you reap,” says the Lord. Therefore, if you sow in this kids the knowledge of God, that is through catechism and serving Mass, and they grow with it, expect good Catholics and good vocations in the future.
Who may join the Archconfraternity? “Membership is open to any boy or man, without any limit of age, who can serve Mass, and who has the desire to conform to the objectives of the Guild”(Handbook). To serve reverently, intelligently, regularly, and punctually are the basic objectives of the Guild. We are encouraging the boys and men alike, of the Parish, to join us to serve Our Lord and stay with Our Lady at the foot of the cross by serving the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!
The Archconfraternity exists for the sanctification of the server and the salvation of his soul. Catholic organization like this helps build the society by promoting the sacramental value of the Holy Mass. It promotes the Mass, the source of all graces, the glory of the martyrs, our consolation here on Earth, and the foundation of the eternal truths. The Holy Mass and the Archconfraternity go together, they are inseparable! And, of course, the prayers of Saint Stephen, the First Martyr, one of the First Seven Deacons (Acts) to shed blood for Our Lord Jesus Christ, are so efficacious before God. He would never allow a Catholic organization dedicated to his name go on extinction. The Archconfraternity, therefore being a witness to the tradition of Our Holy Mother the Church, will help us think of the great value of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, how to love the Mass, how to treasure it, and most of all, how to defend it at all times. God wills that the Mass and Guild should continue and thanks be to Him for having them here in Our Lady of Victories.

This is the guide published in 1962 for priests praying the Divine Office, according to the liturgical books of Blessed John XXIII.
The title word “new” is rather misleading today, as it actually refers to the new code of rubrics promulgated in July 1960 for the traditional Roman Breviary.
In this handy, concise and easy-to-read book, Fr. Hausmann leads the reader step by step through each of the 8 canonical hours, their contents, special particulars, and how they are said, all the while providing important tips on how to recite the Divine Office with a correct liturgical spirit.
An indispensable book for any Catholic who would like to become better acquainted with the traditional Roman Breviary, the Church’s liturgical treasure that in connection with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass forms the Church’s official daily prayer.
A great gift for seminarians, perfect also for any cleric or laic who might want to brush up on their breviary rubrics!

The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius was founded in 1998 by Reverend C. Frank Phillips, C.R., with the blessing of Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago, as a Roman Catholic religious community of men dedicated to the restoration of the sacred in the context of parish ministry. Its mission is to help Catholics rediscover a profound sense of the sacred through solemn liturgies, devotions, sacred art, sacred music, as well as instruction in Church heritage, catechetics, and Catholic culture. This mission is reflected in the community’s motto Instaurare Sacra - To Restore the Sacred. Today and during the Sacred Triduum, the Matins and Lauds of the Divine Office are often sung in a haunting service known as the Tenebrae service (“tenebrae” meaning “shadows”), which is basically a funeral service for Our Lord. During the Matins on Good Friday, one by one, the candles are extinguished in the Church, leaving the congregation in total darkness, and in a silence that is punctuated by the strepitus (a loud clatter intended to evoke the earthquake that was said to happen at the moment of death) meant to evoke the convulsion of nature at the death of Christ. It has also been described as the sound of the tomb door closing.
As the Traditional Tenebrae services are intimidating for smaller parishes (approximately 2 hours of singing), Monsignor Martin B. Hellriegel, created a modified Tenebrae Service for parishes. He maintains the entire structure of the service, but shortens the readings and psalms. In his Tenebrae services (approximately 45 minutes long), the Psalms are chanted in English according to simple Gregorian melodies and tones, yet some of the Latin and simple Greek Chants are provided (i.e. Christus Factus Est). See sample pages below.
Monsignor Martin B. Hellriegel (1890-1981) an Apostolic Protonotary, was one of the giants of the 20th century Liturgical Movement that Pope Pius X inspired. A native of Heppenheim, Germany, his most productive years were spent in America, where he was chaplain to the Most Precious Blood Sisters in O’Fallon, Missouri, then pastor of Holy Cross parish in St. Louis. Monsignor Hellrigel was influential in promoting liturgical reforms that Pope Pius XII had urged in Mediator Dei, his 1947 encyclical on the liturgy—in particular the restoration of the Easter Vigil and the participation of the congregation in the chants of the Mass.
During the Triduum, the Matins and Lauds readings come from the following day’s readings each night because the hours of Matins and Lauds were pushed back so that the public might better participate during these special three days (i.e., the Matins and Lauds readings heard at Spy Wednesday’s tenebrae service are those for Maundy Thursday, the readings for Maundy Thursday’s tenebrae “Cercis siliquastrum” service are from Good Friday, and Good Friday’s readings are from Holy Saturday’s Divine Office).
Legend says that the tree upon which Judas hanged himself was the “Cercis siliquastrum” -- a tree that is now known as the “Judas Tree.” It is a beautiful tree, native to the Mediterranean region, with brilliant deep pink flowers in the spring—flowers that are said to have blushed in shame after Judas’s suicide.

This hymnal for most of this past century has been acclaimed as the standard and most popular Catholic choir hymnal in the United States from the 1920s until the 1960s. This is a masterful reprint of the 1941 edition. It contains a complete collection of approved English and Latin Hymns, Motets, Masses and Liturgical Music for the various seasons of the Ecclesiastical Year. This beautiful, easy to read, and complete edition also contains the organ and piano accompaniment along with four-part music. When celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass, three Altar Cards are placed on the Altar to assist the memory of the priest in saying the prayers of the Mass of All Ages. These prayers are printed on three cards and placed at the middle of the altar and on the Epistle and Gospel corners of the altar.
The Missal of Pope Pius V calls the large Altar Card the “Tabella Secretarum” (tit. xx), and it contains prayers such as the “Gloria in excelsis,” the “Credo in unum Deum,” as well as the prayers of the Offertory and Consecration. The Altar Card placed on the Gospel corner provides the text of the Last Gospel, which is recited at the end of Mass. For the sake of symmetry, the last Altar Card is placed on the Epistle corner and provides the prayer “Deus qui humanae substantiae,” which the priest says as he blesses the water. It also gives the prayer for the “Lavabo,” said as the priest washes his hands.

This lovely set of Altar Cards is printed on heavy cardstock and can be beautifully framed to match any altar. We are happy to offer this set of three Altar cards at the very low price of $40.00 (USD), plus shipping and handling charges.

Whether you have never assisted at the ancient Roman Rite of Mass (1962 Missale Romanum) or have been doing so your whole life, this book has plenty to offer. The neophyte will be forever indebted to Providence for having put this book in his hands. As for the “veterans,” you’ll be left wishing you had read this book decades ago.
Are you fervent in your faith? Fr. Dunney will give you a greater depth of understanding. Are you lukewarm? Let Fr. Dunney pull you out of the spiritual doldrums. You don’t get anything out of Mass? - Then, read this book.
Our challenge is to understand the Mass, participate in it and live by its lessons. Fr. Dunney will help you on all counts. Intellectually, by offering an authoritative explanation of the Roman liturgy, explaining every part of the Mass carefully and in depth, highlighting the priest’s role, vestments, altar vessels, and symbols. The text of the Traditional Roman Liturgy is presented in both Latin and English along with unique and fascinating insights into the history of the liturgy and the Church.
Loaded with examples from Holy Scripture and the lives of the saints, Fr. Dunney applies the lessons of the Mass to help you grow in virtue and character for a fuller spiritual life. More importantly, he will lead you to a true participation in the Mass, which is nothing less than the union of the soul with Christ as He represents on the altar the Sacrifice of Calvary. Not accessible to the average Catholic, you say? Too mystical? Think again. Liturgical scholars and authorities are quoted throughout and 126 illustrations help to clarify important points. Each chapter ends with a series of review questions ideal for study, classes and homeschooling. The Mass is equally useful to the priest, seminarian, student, or layman.

“We want our children to love the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Love proceeds from knowledge: you can only love what you know. The Catechism teaches us that our purpose in life is to know, love and serve God. It is only if you know God, that you can love Him. In The Mass Explained to Children, Maria Montessori gives young readers the knowledge from which a love for the Mass can grow.”
—Laura Berquist, Homeschool Specialist
Maria Montessori was, in many ways, ahead of her time. Born in the town of Chiaravalle, in the province of Ancona, Italy, in 1870, she became the first female physician in Italy upon her graduation from medical school in 1896. Shortly afterwards, she was chosen to represent Italy at two different women’s conferences, in Berlin in 1896 and in London in 1900. Her desire to help children was so strong, however, that in 1906 she gave up both her university chair and her medical practice to work with a group of sixty young children of working parents in the San Lorenzo district of Rome. It was there that she founded the first Casa dei Bambini, or “Children’s House.”

The Gregorian Chant Kyriale is one of the greatest treasures of the vast musical heritage of Roman Catholics. Now back in print, the Organ Accompaniment to the Vatican Kyriale provides a lovely organ accompaniment book for the Gregorian Kyriale chants (e.g., the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, Ite missa est).
This is a must-have for organists who play for the Tridentine Latin Mass!
And for choirs that are not proficient enough yet to sing the propers of the Requiem Masses a cappelo, Bragers generously provided the accompaniments for their propers and Kyriale and the other funeral functions; i.e.: the entrance of the casket into the church (Subvenite), the in Exsequiis (Miserere) absolution ceremony (Libera me, responses and Benedictus), and the concluding antiphon, In Paradisum.
Of course what Gregorian Chant organ accompaniment manual is complete without supplying some of the ad libitum modes for the Kyriale? Bragers succeeds here too admirably with cantus ad libitum modes for I - XI of the Kyrie, I - III and more ambrosiano of the Gloria, I - III of the Sanctus and I & II of the Agnus Dei.
Throughout the entire book, the organ notation is underscored by the Latin words, hyphenated under each appropriate note (which assists with proper pronunciation of liturgical Latin too). Fully indexed, all notations and text are in printed in black ink on medium stock paper to ensure durability, while the spacious comb-binding gives the organist easy and quick access.

This is an invaluable book for the members of the choir and schola singing the Traditional Latin Mass (1962 Missale Romanum). This was the primary ‘proper’ chant book for High Mass choir members in the United States from the 1930s until Vatican II. If the Liber Usualis is intimidating for the smaller or less experienced choir/schola, this is the answer!
The ‘Proper’ Of The Mass is set to very basic Gregorian Psalm-tones with organ accompaniment. These ‘proper’ chants for the entire year are beautiful yet simple enough for most choir members to sing with limited practice. Includes complete daily, seasonal, ember-day, ferial, common Masses, etc. Table of Contents.
Also includes Preface, Instructions from the author to the organist & choir members, Preface, rules for liturgical pronunciation of Latin, notes on when to sing the various chants of the ‘proper’, and rules for
good vocal production.
